IEEE Standards Balloting -- To meet the needs of its standards development participants, with a focus on providing easy access and top-notch service, the IEEE Standards Associationpartnered with bivio to develop a new web-based standards balloting system and service, called myBallot(TM), using bOP. myBallot provides users with continuous access to a robust collection of IEEE standards balloting tools and information and provides users the ability to directly manage their ballot activities online. bivio was presented with a complete specification, and began coding. Within a few weeks, IEEE standards participants could create a ballot, enter comments and vote. Over the course of a few months, the application was extended to meet the specification and improved based on extensive user feedback.
Network Management -- AP Connections, Inc. had developed a successful open source traffic shaping application, known as Bandwidth Arbitrator. The problem was AP Connections wanted to capitalize on this success.
AP Connections called on bivio to develop a strategy and to package the product. We rebranded the product as Net Equalizer, and helped with hardware package selection and testing. bivio initiated the Net Equalizer's QoS product, which is rapidly gaining acceptance in the small to medium-sized IP telephony market.
Email Deliverability -- Assurance Systems, Inc. was a self-funded joint venture between bivio and a team of experienced email deliverability experts. Spam has taken over the Internet, and legitimate opt-in emails are being blocked due to misconfigured mailers, incorrect blacklist identification, and poorly implemented spam filters.
We developed a three-pronged solution to help legitimate email marketers: Mailbox Monitor, Blacklist Alert, and Message Checker. Coding began in September 2002, and we launched in October 2002. Return Path, Inc. acquired the company in May 2003. bivio is at the tail end of the process of transferring application development and maintenance to the internal engineering team at Return Path.
Retail Web Application -- Zoe, Inc. had been developing an online marriage preparation application Java/JSP for six months prior to coming to bivio, and it still wasn't working.
bivio implemented the application in three weeks using bOP. The application went live a few months later after extensive usability testing. After feedback from Zoe's users, we converted the extensive pre-marital report in PDF in a matter of weeks. The application is helping couples throughout the U.S. prepare for marriage by presenting a customized research report about their strengths and challenges.
B2B Integration -- The Surplus Line Association of Colorado (SLA)had been using a Microsoft Access application to hand enter regulatory data from its brokers into the database.
bivio implemented an online information system to allow brokers to input their regulatory data directly via a web interface or via a Microsoft Excel workbook. We have since adapted the system to match the legacy output formats of premium-management applications used by large surplus agencies. The SLA and the Colorado Division of Insurance rely on the system to manage stamp fee and tax payments for all surplus lines policies produced in Colorado.
Investment Club Accounting, taxes, and management -- Our flagship service was initially developed between June and November, 1999. bivio.com currently services the accounting, file sharing, email, and administrative needs of over 7,500 investment clubs worldwide, representing assets in excess of $100M. Our site has received numerous awards, including Site of the Year (2000) from Online Investor and Net's Best Resource for Investment Clubs from Money Magazine.
