  • Mainframes: centralized, expensive, hand fed

  • OLTP: Batch mode terminals (enter fields, hit send)

  • Minicomputer: Fully-interactive terminals (some graphics)

  • PC/Workstation: Local execution, cheap (empowered users)

  • Client-Server: Centralization wasn't so bad

  • N-Tier: Somewhat decentralized, but really client-cluster

  • Web: centralized, cheap, fully automated OLTP
